Job Summary: Tompkins’ Material Handling Integration Department Is responsible for the design, specification, implementation and commissioning of Material Handling Systems for our customers.
In this position you will be responsible for creating PLC programs, HMI programs, IO Lists, Configuring and commissioning Ethernet Networks using multiple devices such as VFDs, Scanners, Scales, RIO Modules, etc. Your responsibilities will also include onsite implementation, testing, and commissioning of projects.
The position requires you to coordinate and work closely with Electrical Engineers, System Architects, Application Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Sub-Contractors and Project Managers throughout the life cycle of the projects.

- Controls and Electrical Engineering
- Lead Large Project Programming Creation and other Controls Engineers
- Lead Onsite Project Implementations and Commissioning
- Controls and Communication Architecture Design (PLCs, I/O Distribution, Ethernet Communications)
- PLC Programming Creation
- HMI Programming Creation
- Programming Devices such as Conveyor Systems, MDR, VFDs, Scanners, Printers, etc.
- Controls and Electrical Engineering Technical Support to all Internal and External TEAMs
- Coordination and Support of the Electrical Design Team
- Request for Proposal Creation used for the Vendor Quoting and Selection Process
- Professional Communication and Presentation to all Internal and External Teams
- Professional Documentation Presentation to all Internal and External Teams
- Create, Organize and Properly Store PLC, HMI, and other Programs and Configurations
- Participate In Team Meetings as required
- Accept other Occasionally Assigned Tasks that are Field Related
- Projects Performed On Time
- Projects Performed to Budget
Qualifications:
- Bachelor in Electrical, Electronic or Controls Engineering OR minimum 7 years of equivalent experience
- Experience in PLC and HMI Programming Creation
- Experience in Configuring and Commissioning devices such as VFDs, Scanners, Scales, MDR, etc.
- Experience in Configuring and Commissioning Communication Networks using Ethernet Communications
- Experience In Configuring and Commissioning Electrical and PLC Safety Circuits
- Knowledge of Acceptable Electrical Practices, Techniques, and Codes
- Experience with Programming Large Scale PLC Projects
- Experience with Leading Large PLC Projects
- Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
- Organizational Skills

- Proactive Attitude towards Identifying, Initiating, and Implementing Improvement Activities
